Our Core Metrics

Expected ROI, Profit and Hourly Rate

Expected ROI, Profit and Hourly Rate is our main pillar of the Selection Poker. We provide those accurate results for each MTT in our database. Based on the numbers you can easily create your most profitable session and improve all mentioned metrics, which basically means you will earn more money just by picking the right games. Simple. Isn´t it?

Expected ROI (%)

The value represents the average ROI of the winning regulars in the specific MTT.

Expected Profit

The value represents the average profit you can expect for playing the specific MTT.

Expected Hourly Rate

The average profit per hour for 1 specific MTT. Doesn´t include multi-tabling.

Average Duration

Average total duration of the specific tournament.
Tournament Data Analysis

Sorting the results for specific MTTs

Raw tournament results alone are not enough to estimate profitability accurately. Many tournaments may look similar on the surface but differ in important factors such as format, structure, or field size. To produce reliable insights, Selection Poker carefully groups and organizes the collected data.

We sort data based on:

  • Poker network (PokerStars, GG network, CoinPoker etc.)
  • Buy-in (1$ - 10300$)
  • Game Type (Re-entry, Bounty, Mystery etc.)
  • Field Size (0-90, 90-180, 180-360, 360+ players)
  • Speed (Slow, Regular, Turbo, Hyper)

Coverage Across All Stakes

Our data is balanced across all buy-in levels to ensure that every stake range has sufficient data. The database covers tournaments from $1 micro stakes up to $10,300 high-stakes MTTs, allowing the app to model profitability across the entire tournament ecosystem.

Different Tournament Types

Different tournament formats have different levels of variance. To maintain statistical reliability, each format requires its own minimum sample size. Some formats naturally produce more variance, so they require larger datasets before they are included in our models. This ensures that all estimates are based on sufficiently large and statistically meaningful samples.

Collecting MTT results

Winning Regs in Online MTTs

Our database consists of results of thousands of winning online poker players. These players represent the benchmark for realistic long-term performance in MTT tournaments.

Different Poker Networks

Each poker network has its own player pool and ecosystem, so the data is collected and analyzed separately for every network. To ensure reliable results, we use sufficiently large groups of winning players within each network. This allows us to build accurate performance models and realistic profit estimates.

Large Sample Sizes

Within each player group, our database contains results representing hundreds of thousands of played MTTs, and in some cases millions of tournaments. The exact size depends on the poker network and whether there is enough data for specific tournament groups. Large samples help reduce variance and allow us to produce more accurate profitability estimates.

Recent Poker Results

We all know that online poker becomes more competitive every year. That is why we use only the most recent data to estimate realistic expected results. Older results are excluded to ensure our models reflect the current state of the online MTT ecosystem.
Answers to Common Questions

Behind the numbers FAQ

01. How many players are included in the samples for each poker network?

It depends on the size of poker network, but generally we aim to include around 1,000 winning poker pros per site. Some networks may have more or fewer players, depending on the number and variety of MTTs in their schedule.

Our goal is to cover at least 90% of the tournaments played on each poker site with reliable data. To achieve this, we need sufficiently large poker player samples to ensure realistic numbers. We update our sample groups regularly, that means if some player turns into unprofitable he will be removed, same as if there is a new poker player with a relevant sample, we will add him to the group.

02. How do you select the players included in the dataset?

Players are selected primarily based on their long-term results, but they must meet several minimum criteria before being included in the dataset.

These criteria include having a sufficiently large tournament sample, meeting a minimum profitability requirement (ROI), and maintaining consistent results over time. The required sample size also depends on the types of MTTs a player participates in, since large-field tournaments require bigger samples due to higher variance.

03. What requirements must players meet to be included in the dataset?

Players must have a sufficiently large sample of played tournaments. The required sample depends on the type of MTTs they play. For example, players who mainly play large-field tournaments need a much larger sample (1000+) because these events have higher variance. Players who focus on smaller-field tournaments can meet the requirement with a smaller sample. (250+)

We also apply a minimum ROI requirement, typically around 10% over a relevant sample size. This threshold may vary depending on the stakes the player is playing, as profitability expectations differ across buy-in levels.

04. Do you update the groups of the winning poker pros?

Yes. We update our player groups regularly to keep the database accurate and relevant. If a player becomes unprofitable over time, they are removed from the dataset. Likewise, if a new player reaches a reliable and meaningful sample, they are added to the group.

This continuous adjustment ensures the data reflects the current performance of winning MTT players.

05. Should I expect to achieve the same ROI as the Expected ROI shown in the app?

No. The Expected ROI represents the average performance of the winning MTT regs in the sample group. The group includes a wide range of profitable players. Some achieve results on the higher end of the spectrum, while others are profitable but with more modest returns. For example, some players may reach very high ROI levels, while others achieve significantly lower but still positive results.

Your actual ROI will depend on your skill level, strategy, and game selection. It is possible to outperform the Expected ROI, but it is also possible to achieve lower results. To maintain reliability, we apply minimum requirements for players to be included in the dataset.

06. What about poker sites that are untracked on the Sharkscope?

Our long-term goal is to grow a large enough user base to collect data for all MTTs - including those on untracked poker sites like WPT Global or mobile club apps.

We want to build a community that helps each other by sharing long-term results. As more players contribute data, we can build a solid sample size and create reliable profitability estimates even for currently untracked tournaments.
